David Haye: I will never apologize for defending myself

Last Saturday former WBA heavyweight champion, David Haye, had an ugly fist-fight with the former British heavyweight champion, Dereck Chisora, which many think was a disgraceful act. However, Haye is completely unfazed with the noises in the air, as he believes whatever he did was an act of self-defence.

Last weekend Chisora lost to Vitali Klitschko via a twelve round unanimous decision but in their post-fight press conference Haye appeared and started criticising Vitali for not fighting him. Things heated up when Chisora intervened and later on walked up to Haye.

Haye, speaking on Saturday night via video-link to ITV’s That Sunday Night Show, stated Chisora slapped Vitali in their weigh-in and then spat water at Wladimir’s face moments ago his WBC title fight match. He insisted Chisora had also threatened that he will slap him whenever he meets him as a result to which he thought he will do the same to him.

The 31-year-old brash Londoner, who is more commonly known as the Hayemaker, remarked he will never apologise for what he has done because it was an act of self-defence and he has all the rights to defend himself.

He said: “I would never apologise for defending myself. I’m within my rights to defend myself. That’s what I’ll do every day of the week.”

Haye had a bottle when he launched his right hand and an irked Chisora started shouting ‘he glassed me’ so much so that he said it almost more than 23 times. Nevertheless, Haye claims he didn’t glass Chisora at all. The Brit admitted he had a bottle in his hand but on the same note he stressed he didn’t use it at all.

He added, “I couldn’t just stand there with my hands by my side. I had a bottle in my hand but I hit him with my fist.

“The way I see it I won’t get people coming up in my face any more.”

Chisora has been fined $100,000 of his $300,000-plus purse, which is currently frozen by the World Boxing Council. He will face a British Board hearing and probable suspension next month.
