The keys are crackles and make not much noise while typing and are separated by reasonable distance, suitable for both big and small hands. The whole lot is appropriately backlit with LEDs that are neither dim nor bright in the dark.
The track-pad is another plus on the worksheet. Covered by a glass with a matte finish, it might take some time to get used to tapping on it but its size is appropriate.
The base model comes with a 128 GB SSD hard drive that is upgradable. With the absence of an optical drive, the notebook boils down to no-moving-part machine.
XPS 13 however, misses some of the glitter in the pot. There is no SD card reader, when almost all of its competitors offer one. There is no HDMI port of any size, which is replaced by a DisplayPort, which when it comes to versatility misses a lot of juice in it.
The base model comes with Intel Core i5 2467M CPU, which is a little expensive when compared to Toshiba’s Protégé and HP Folio that offer the same processor for a hundred dollars less. Moreover, these devices come with a higher 1,600×900 screen resolution.
However, as compared the aforementioned laptops, XPS offers more glamour and performance to the customers, who want a slim notebook without the premium price of Macbook Air.
Keeping a the aforesaid in the article and the building up trend of ultrabooks, the addition of XPS 13 in the family is welcome release. In terms of performance and looks, the notebook is capable of giving its competitors, including Macbook Air, a run for their money.
