Pakistan demolishes Osama Bin Laden’s hideout in Abbottabad

In order to divert the attention, Pakistan completely demolished the three-storey compound where the US Navy seals had killed Osama Bin Laden in a night-time raid on May 02, 2011.

A senior security said, “The process launched for demolishing the compound on Saturday evening was completed on Sunday night. The whole structure has been razed to the ground. It actually took some time as the process of demolition and removing the wreckage was going on simultaneously”.

He further stated that precautionary measures were taken to avoid any mishap during the demolition process. The person, according to local and international media, failed to answer why the building was was being razed to the ground.

A report quoting a senior police officer commented that an unannounced curfew was clamped in Bilal Town, where the compound was located, which remained under embargo till late Sunday night.

He was of the opinion that this step was taken in order to avoid any mishap. A large contingent comprising police and army personnel deployed in the area.

The report quoting police official said, “The recent rocket attack by unknown people on military installations in Abbottabad had created a serious concern among the military authorities and local administration and, therefore, strict security measures were undertaken during the demolition process”.

According to the residents debris of the building was still present on the spot, saying that their suffering would finally end now that the compound had been demolished.

The compound had aroused curiosity and attracted a large number of visitors as it had been the residence of the most wanted man in the world and the place where bin Laden was allegedly found and killed, they stated.

Heavy machinery on Monday finished completed the demolishing operation. Only the wall of the compound remained intact, surrounding the debris of the three-storey building.

The media, both local and foreign, were not allowed near the site. The high-ups of both civil administration and armed forces refused to comment on the action.

The land measuring seven kanals was purchased by an aide of Osama in 2004 and a three-story building was constructed over more than three kanals of the plot in Bilal town.
