The reigning world amateur snooker champion, Hossein Vafaei Ayouri of Iran, will be coming over to Pakistan to participate in the Jubilee Insurance 6-Nation International Snooker Championship-2012,
scheduled to be held here at Hotel Pearl Continental from March 4 to 9.
Alamgir Anwar Shaikh, President, Pakistan Billiards & Snooker Association (PBSA), informed ‘The News’ here on Wednesday that Hossein, who clinched the world crown last December in Bangalore,
India, by defeating Lee Walker of Wales in the final, will be accompanied by Syed Abooyesani in the two-member Iranian squad.
Shaikh has released the names and itinerary of all the participating teams as well the functionaries of the game’s controlling body, invited in the championship as guests of honour. Iran,
India, Egypt, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will be contesting the event along with hosts Pakistan.
According to the details, Mohamed Ibrahim Mohamed and Yasir Ahmed Mohamed Elsherbiny (Egypt), Yasin Raza Merchant and Mohammad Faisal Khan (India), Hossein Vafaei Ayouri and Syed Abooyesani
(Iran), Noppon Saengkham and Thepchaiya Un-Nooh (Thailand), Mohammad Al Joaker and Mohammad Mustafa Shehab (UAE) will be the participating cueists arriving from abroad.
Pascal Guillaum, President, International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF) and Mohamed Elkammah, Secretary General, IBSF, hailing from France and Egypt respectively, have also confirmed
their plans to travel to Karachi along with Hashem Eskandarirad, President, Billiards & Snooker Federation of Iran.
The Pakistan squad for the 6-nation event has already been announced and it comprises of Mohammad Asif, Sultan Mohammad, Mohammad Sajjad, Naveen Kumar Perwani, Abdul Sattar and Sohail
Shahzad.
Meanwhile Alamgir Shaikh revealed that the PBSA had applied for the Clearance/NOC to the Islamabad-based Pakistan Sports Board (PSB)/Federal Ministry of Sports for all the foreign participants
and officials well in advance.
“We have urgently requested the concerned authorities to issue the clearance immediately to all the Pakistan embassies of the above countries, enabling the cueists and delegates to obtain
the visas,” he added.
