Blinded by Darkness

Those who have seen the light can never be kept in the dark for long. However, for those who have pretty much lived under dark clouds since as long as they can remember, the desire to bathe in light is not that strong. Hence, it is not difficult to kept these people at bay and exploit their ignorance for selfish gains. That is exactly what is currently going on in Pakistan.
Since the birth of the state, the people have been facing challenges. The moment they get done with one challenge, they find themselves coming across a new and more demanding challenge. They have hardly been given a break and thus find themselves in a continuous and seemingly never-ending struggle for survival.
While these challenges were first created during the time of partition, if anyone thought that things would settle down once the people of Pakistan came into power and began working on making the newly-born state stable, they could not have been further away from reality. Ever since the death of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, there has been a ongoing struggle for power. For many, power was appealing as it allowed them to amass a fortune, while for many it was money that empowered them.
With the priorities pretty much set, the race for power and money began in the country. New leaders emerged on yearly or even monthly basis. Gradually, the army began to feel the craving for power and money as well and joined the race as well.
During all this time, the Pakistani nation found themselves deprived of their very fundamental rights. The leaders who had the responsibility of leading them towards a blissful future were indulged in fulfilling their lust for personal gains and thus were completely ignorant of a nation that desperately needed their attention.
Gradually, the people began to forget what their rights are and gave in to their leaders’ self-centred attitude. They transformed into pawns that were willing to do anything in order to protect their king. In the absence of the queen that is crucial to a king’s survival in the game of chess, the leaders of Pakistan hedged the risk by transferring their money to foreign accounts in case they were required to make a quick escape.
The scenario of Pakistan is alarming at present and all that the people are willing to do is sit and complain about it. They have not seen better days, but they have heard about better situations that prevail around the world. They have not lived a better life but they have seen a better life in films and novels. They have heard about the light indeed, but they are yet to see it for themselves. This may be the very reason why they crave for something better but don’t crave it with enough intensity. If their desire was strong, they would have stood up and fought for their rights. They would have waged a war against those who had been treating them with injustice.
There is still time to make things right and push away the dark clouds to let the light shone upon our land. There is still an opportunity to make the country a better place. All we have to do is get rid of the corrupt politicians, use our vote wisely, become the change that we want to make in our society and hold on to each other strongly as we push forward towards a better tomorrow.
