Imran Khan, a Hope too good to be a reality?
Tuesday, February 28th, 2012 5:32:02 by Ahmed BabarPakistan is facing a tough time as a nation and Imran Khan is the only ray of hope for its residents today.
He is currently warming up for the coming elections and his party Tehreek-E-Insaf is looking good to give a tough competition to other established politicians.
A number of renowned personalities including Shah Mehmood Qureshi (PPP) and Javed Hashmi (PML-N) have strengthened the party with their announcements to join PTI.
There is no doubt about Khan’s honesty and dedication and he has proved himself a number of times before.
IK is looking quite strong for the coming elections and has received a huge response from the people of Pakistan which was evident during his conventions across the country.
He received an immense response from people of all ages and from all walks of life and named it as Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s tsunami.
He seems to be the only man who tried to light a candle when everyone else was just cursing the darkness.
No matter how powerful and strong his Tsunami is , the two main political parties of the country, Pakistan People’s Party and Pakistan Muslim league-N remains the two strongest parties.
It will not be easy for Khan to overcome the two giants in Pakistan’s politics and if he does, will he be able to deliver is the biggest question of all times.
He can at most remove the corruption from the Government level but Pakistan is a nation where corruption is the cheapest commodity.
Khan briefed with a British newspaper, telegraph, “I want Pakistan to be a welfare state and a genuine democracy with a rule of law and an independent judiciary. We need decentralisation, empowering people at the grass roots,”
If Khan wins, will he or his party be able to change the state of this nation remains the top question.
However, one thing that is certain is the fact that his success will definitely bring an end to the only ray of hope that this country has.
May be, it is best for all of us if Khan remains a hope as it was once said by a wise man, “The capacity for hope is the most significant fact of life. It provides human beings with a sense of destination and the energy to get started”, Norman Cousins.

Although Imran is clean, his politics is not so straightforward. A man of his background living in both Islamic and western cultures, and now leaning towards religious conservatism, is a contradiction. Such metamorphism can only be described as political opportunism. His sympathies are more with the religious right, earning him, in some quarters, the title of ‘Taliban Khan’. He believes that the country’s militants can be won over through talks. He is pushing the popular anti-US line, advocates freeing Pakistan of US and western aid, and drawing closer to China, which is all fine. But he is sketchy on how all this will solve the country’s myriad problems. There is a certain political naivety about the man. There are no detailed policy prescriptions to take the country ahead. To take one important aspect: has he got a policy framework to conduct dialogue with the Taliban? How will they be accommodated? Will ‘Prime Minister’ Imran Khan agree to run the country on the Taliban’s interpretation of Islam? There is no clarity about the path Pakistan will tread under him.
