US has no link with Congress bill on Balochistan; says Hina Rabbani Khar
Tuesday, February 28th, 2012 9:33:19 by Faisal FarooqForeign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar on Monday clarified that the U.S. has no link with the bill presented in the Congress that espoused self-determination for Balochistan.
While speaking to the media in Abu Dhabi, the minister stated that the bill on Balochistan in the U.S. Congress was an individual act, adding that the American government did not need to give clarification on the matter but it did so.
She observed, “Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said to me that if anyone presents resolution in the Pakistani parliament you cannot stop him/her from it. The US (government) should not be grilled over the matter anymore”.
She further said that Hillary Clinton told her that the U.S. government had repeatedly said Balochistan was Pakistan’s internal matter, and there had been no change in that stance. The minister while referring to NATO supply issue said parliament will take final decision in this regard.
Later, Pakistani foreign minister held a meeting with her UAE counterpart, confirming the continued strong alliance and cooperation between the duo states. The meeting was in connection with the 10th session of the Pakistan-United Arab Emirates Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC).
The two leaders discussed focusing on ways to further enhance economic and commercial relationships between the two brotherly countries.
UAE Minister for Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah assured Pakistan of their full support for the Pakistan-GCC FTA, saying that the UAE valued its ties with Pakistan due to the two countries’ long and deep relations.
The Pakistani minister during her visit to the UAE urged them to invest in her country, in addition to highlighting the numerous benefits and opportunities for UAE businesses interested in investing.
Abdullah observed, “The UAE has one of the richest diversities of foreign labour. It is important that our trading partners continue to clarify working conditions and properly set expectations so our exchange of manpower continues to be beneficial for our countries”.
Trade between the two countries continues to increase, reaching $6.7 billion (Dh24.45 billion) last year. He further commented, “The uninterrupted flow of oil through the Gulf and the stability of oil prices are interlinked to the stability of the region and the world”.
Khar while addressing a joint press conference stressed that there were ample opportunities for UAE investors in various fields of renewable energy, oil and gas, hydro-petroleum refineries, technology, agriculture, infrastructure and other sectors.
