Muhammad Amir returns home
Tuesday, February 28th, 2012 5:26:13 by Ahmed BabarPakistan’s pacer Muhammad Amir returned home this Sunday after serving the sentence in an England’s prison.
The 19-year-old took a direct flight from London and landed at the Allama Iqbal Airport in Lahore. The media tried its best to get something out of the cricketer but he headed straight to his house in DHA, Lahore without saying a word.
His family members also denied to comment on the issue and drove him in a white car direct to his house.
Amir was amongst the three Pakistani cricketers who were accused of spot fixing during a Test Match in August 2010.
Former captain Salman Butt and Veena Malik’s former boy friend Muhammad Asif were also charged by a judge in London.
The judge was convinced that the two pacers deliberately bowled the no-balls with the consent of their captain.
Amir was banned from professional cricket for a period of five years and was also charged for a six months imprisonment as the Judge in London made the final hearing.
Muhammad Asif was given a twelve months ban for deliberately bowling a no-ball while Salman butt who is declared as the master-mind behind the whole scan will spend a period of two and a half years behind bars.
It is still uncertain whether Amir will represent Pakistan in the future or not but what is certain is that the trio humiliated the whole nation.
Cricket is considered as a mother sport of the subcontinent and people follow it more than anything else which is the main reason why the whole nation was left heartbroken after the incident.
“Amir’s basis of plea is that he was limited to being involved in the final Test at Lord’s on 26 and 27 August,” said the judge. “It says this was the defendant’s first and his only involvement, therefore it was an isolated and one-off event”.
He continued, “The defendant only became involved as a result of pressure (not amounting to physical threats) and influence to the effect that if he did not become involved he would suffer serious professional implications for his future career”.
Pakistan’s cricket Board’s Chairman Zaka Ashraf commented on Amir’s return to professional cricket once the ban and the ICC ban is completed.
Amir was a sheer talent and his talent is truly missed by Team Pakistan. He claimed 51 wickets in a total number of 14 tests and also helped the team in their win over Australia after 15 years.
