Samsung Galaxy Beam: Hands-on Review (Mobile World Congress 2012)

By far the most advanced smartphone released by Samsung at the Mobile World Congress 2012, Barcelona was the Galaxy Beam.

Though the phone has inherited strong genes from the Galaxy family in terms of looks, the most amazing thing that the company has managed to pull off is the projector at the top of the handset.

The LED backlit projector is although not an equivalent to a professional mainstream projector but it gives quite a sharp and bright projection to pictures and videos on a small scale and the best thing about it is that it does not consume a lot of the juice from the battery.

As for the rest of the phone, nothing is out of the ordinary for the Beam. It comes with a 4-inch LED display that lacks both organic and active matrix technologies in it. However, the pixel density is acceptable to be a smartphone.

The Beam centres around a dual-core processor clocked at 1 GHz, best at running Android Gingerbread and that’s exactly what Samsung has offered in the handset, an Android 2.3 Gingerbread version.

At the rear-end Samsung has nestled a 5-mega pixel camera that is accompanied by a single LED flash.  It looks like the company has some sort of fixation with 5-mega pixel camera. So far, including every handset from Galaxy Nexus to any device to date except the dinosaur of a phone, Galaxy Note, has gotten a 5 MP camera.

This however, has the capability of capturing 720p HD video and so does the front facing 1.3-mega pixel snapper for video chatting.

The launch date of the phone has been announced somewhere between April and June and it is expected to arrive unlocked all over the world.
