Pakistan to normalise the Indian Imports by the end of 2012

In an attempt to normalise the trade between the two countries, Pakistan has decided to end its restrictions on Indian Imports.

It was reported earlier this week that the trade between the two countries will be practised normally by the end of this year.

It has also been said that the “negative list” of the goods will be eliminated by December 2012 and, “the process of trade normalisation between the two countries would be completed.”

Pakistan currently holds a list of 1,945 products that are allowed to import from India out of which only 108 can be imported by road through Wagah border in Lahore.

Anand Sharma is Indian Minister for Commerce, Industry and Textile and he appreciated the positive step taken by Pakistan.

Anand told IBN Live India, “The move would open business opportunities. This will mark a dramatic shift in the lines that can be traded as now almost 90 per cent items can be traded with Pakistan as opposed to 17 per cent earlier,” Sharma was quoted in the
report”.

He continued, “I am happy that this has been achieved. We believe that strengthening economic engagement between India and Pakistan lies at the heart of building enduring peace and stability in this region. Flourishing trade is the biggest confidence building
measure among any two nations”.

Definitely a bold move taken by Pakistan as it will not only bring the two countries closer but will also give an edge to cope up with the global financial crisis that is the biggest problem faced by the world today.
