Politics Uncensored: The confusing relation between voters and politicians

One of the strangest things that I find about politics in Pakistan and the role of the voters is that those who are most affected by the policies of the leaders are the ones who end up bringing the wrong people into power and the latter makes them pay for
it rather than showing their gratitude.
The laid back attitude of the middle and elite class of the country towards their responsibility to vote is no mystery. Regardless of who comes into power, these people always manage to make the ends meet and only turn their attention towards politics and
the people in power when they have nothing better to do. They slander a politician just for the sake of discussion and killing time rather than having a real interest or actual knowledge about who they are talking about.
These sort of people seem to be neither interested nor significantly affected by the man calling the shots in the country. While he may be forced to cut down his luxuries due to the policies of the government, he would still sleep with a full stomach and
get his children good education.
The lower class, on the other hand, is not that fortunate. They get out of their houses to vote for their leaders and it is their votes that put someone in power. While it is hard to figure out why they voted for whom they voted for. It seems the clichéd
false promises made by the politicians are not as ineffective as many would like to believe. There are still people who buy every word that comes out of the mouth of a politician.
Even though one feels frustrated with the ignorance of the lower class, one also feels sympathy for them. After all, they would be the first ones to get run down by whatever new policies the government initiates or the budget that they present in the parliament.
However, the politicians seem to have sold their heart and fitted something else in their chest, something that keeps them from taking pity on the underprivileged or developing a conscience.
Pakistani politics is indeed strange and so are the voters who fail to learn from their experiences.
