Vodafone wants to share the deployment of fiber network in Spain

Vodafone CEO, Vittorio Colao, is willing to sign joint venture agreements with Spanish operators for deployment of infrastructure and in particular, the new fiber optic network.

According to the CEO, Vodafone are focusing the Spanish market, for their continued fall in revenues and margins due to the crisis. He meanwhile believes that the company are considering shift in trade policy with more aggressive
pricing plans to relaunch the brand.

"Does Europe need employment or does Europe need rate cuts? We should stop having this continuous intervention on prices and let the industry reinvest the money.” Colao was quoted as saying.

He added: "Regulators should stop cutting mobile termination rates, pushing down roaming prices, building funny auctions which are designed to extract more money from existing operators, and resisting industry consolidation," Colao
said. "This is not a request for a moratorium on competition but a much stronger request for a moratorium on regulation."

Spain was one of those countries where Vodafone managed to apply their policy before sharing mobile infrastructure (particularly with Orange). Colao avoided ruling on studies that put Vodafone analysts as potential buyers of new
operators of success as Telstra (mobile) or Jazztel (broadband). However, he has not ruled out interest in these firms.

He acknowledged that the Spanish market has outpaced the moments of euphoria ("high subsidies and high prices terminals"), and passing through a tough time. However, he was confident that the tariff revision will contribute to
the relaunch of the brand and they will be able to regain the trust from their customer (perhaps in reference to the losses last year).

Colao reemphasized his battle against regulators and, in particular, by lower interconnection rates, which companies pay each other.
