Dereck Chisora gets an indefinite ban by World Boxing Council

Former British heavyweight champion, Dereck Chisora, has been handed an indefinite ban by the World Boxing Council (WBC) for having a fight and threatening to ‘shoot’ his rival countryman David Haye, who is a former WBA heavyweight champion.

Last weekend Chisora suffered a twelve round unanimous defeat to the current WBC heavyweight champion, Vitali Klitschko. However, before the fight Chisora slapped Vitali in their weigh-in. He also spat water at Wladimir’s when his WBC fight was about to start.

Things didn’t end here as after losing to Vitali, Chisora had an ugly brawl with Haye where he threatened to ‘physically shoot David Haye’. He also said he will ‘burn’ him up and these actions prompted the WBC to strip Chisora of his ranking and forbid him to fight for their titles until he completes an anger management course.

WBC president Jose Sulaiman confirmed the news.

“Dereck Chisora is not going to tarnish the sport for those born in the humblest beds, who become sports heroes of the world to live a life of dignity and pride,” he said.

“Boxers are gentlemen and show to the world an example of honor and fair play when after a tremendous battle, they go to the center of the ring to pay respect to each other.

He added, “The WBC is imposing a serious fine to be finally determined after the hearing to be held under the supervision of our counsel representative attorney Stephen Beverly.

“The WBC will also take off from the WBC rankings the name of Dereck Chisora and declare an indefinite suspension against fighting again for a WBC title, while demanding Chisora to take an anger management medical treatment after which his suspension will be reconsidered.”

Chisora, who holds a record of winning 15 of his 18 professional fights, including 10 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, is also facing sanctions from the British Boxing Board of Control at a meeting in March. Nevertheless, the board can’t bring sanctions against David Haye since he officially announced his retirement last year.
