Wladimir Klitschko ‘not’ promising a knockout against Jean-Marc Mormeck
Friday, March 2nd, 2012 5:29:29 by Imran Shaukat KhanWladimir Klitschko, the current WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, IBO & Ring Magazine Heavyweight Champion, has vowed not to promise a knockout finish against former WBC & WBA unified world cruiserweight champion, Jean-Marc Mormeck and the main reason behind is his failure to knock out David Haye.
The 6 ft 6 in Ukrainian giant, who is more commonly known as ‘Dr. Steelhammer’, took on former WBA heavyweight champion, David Haye, in a highly anticipated unification bout for the heavyweight titles on July 2 last year. Before the fight Wladimir promised he will make Haye his 50th knockout but on the fight night he failed to deliver since he won via a twelve round unanimous decision.
Therefore, this time Wladimir is no mood to make any promises. The 35-year-old pugilist, who holds a record of winning 56 of his 59 professional fights, with 49 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, insisted he will only focus on winning the fight but if he manages a knock out, it will be an icing on the cake.
Klitschko will enter the ring as a red-hot favorite against Mormeck yet he is expecting a tough night from the Frenchman, who is only fighting in his fourth heavyweight bout having made the up from cruiserweight.
“He will be very aggressive, very explosive, he will move forward and he will be similar to Mike Tyson with his style. He will move a lot with his head and he will throw a lot of punches from different angles,” Klitschko told Sky Sports’ Ringside.
“But I’m stopping promising those knockouts. Do you know why? I promised to knock out David Haye and I felt so bad that I didn’t. You know what? I will promise to do anything and everything to win this fight as clear as possible and the best win is a win by knockout.”
The 39-year-old Mormeck, known as ‘The Marksman’, holds a record of winning 36 of his 40 professional fights, including 22 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout. Though Mormeck is fully confident of pulling an upset, many out there don’t consider him as a threat to Wladimir.
