Sachin Tendulkar’s 100th ton has become a burden on Team India, says Ian Chappell
Sunday, March 4th, 2012 8:16:50 by Rana Nasir GhafoorIndian cricket players have frequently said that Sachin Tendulkar’s historic 100th ton is no issue for Team India, but Ian Chappell has an entirely different say on this.
The Australian believes the Master Blaster’s elusive ton has become a burden for Tendulkar as well as the side.
The cricket lovers have been desperately waiting for the 100th ton, but the batting maestro is yet to accomplish the feat.
In the recent tour to Australia, the Little Master failed to play a decent innings both in Test and tri-angular one-day series.
Chappell was not reluctant to say that it could have been a great ending for Tendulkar, but now it has become a series of regrets.
Meanwhile, the cricketer turned commentator stated in clear words that the great batsman should ask himself whether he is playing for the right cause.
"What could have been a glorious farewell tour of Australia for Sachin Tendulkar has turned into an ongoing tale of missed opportunities, leading to frustration all round," Chappell wrote in The Daily Telegraph.
"When a player of Tendulkar’s ability starts blaming others for his failure to deliver, it was time he asked himself: ‘Am I playing this game for the right reason? If a player gives everything and the team loses there is no shame in that, but when individual
statistics start to overshadow the team result then clearly there is a problem. That has been a huge hurdle for India to overcome all summer – Tendulkar’s search for his 100th century has become a burden on the team as well as the player," added the legendary
cricketer.
He also shared that Tendulkar is currently undergoing a real bad slump. Despite taking good starts on number of occasions, the stylish batsman failed to turn those into big innings.
On Tendulkar’s poor form, Chappell shared, "The strange part about this saga of missed opportunities is that Tendulkar started the tour in really good form. In both the MCG and SCG Tests, he looked goo#d when playing his shots and it was only as he either
neared a break in play or his landmark hundred that he began to clam up.”

ICC has declared “Ian Chappell” an Australian psycho is gone under control.
Please ignore his comments about his big daddy Sachin Tendulkar.
I guess Ian Chappel is right. Sachin is too old to continue and must listen to his former Skipper, Kapil Dev.
“May be his time has come. Every player has his time. Age is not on his side as it was earlier. Perhaps Sachin loves cricket more than himself. Azhar feels like playing even now. Sourav (Ganguly) wants to play. It’s important what the Board or the selectors
feel about the issue”, Kapil Dev
