Nawaz Vehemently opposes a possible extension for Pasha

Lahore: (Monday, March 05, 2012) Nawaz Shairf, the chief of the Pakistan Muslim League-N, has vehemently opposed a possible extension for the director general of the Inter-Services Intelligence, Lt-General Ahmed Shuja Pasha for
one more year.

Pasha, who is already on a year’s extension after exceeding his retirement age, is to complete his second tenure on March 18, 2012.

However, contrary to Nawaz Sharif’s wishes, as per some well placed high officials in the government, Pasha is likely to get another two years extension in office as the country is through high internal and external security threats.
The final decision in this regard is expected to be announced on March 18.

Nawaz, while talking to the journalists during his condolence visit to a martyred Colonel Sheraz here, said that he will oppose the move.

Going one-step further in expressing his annoyance with the military establishment, the former prime minister advised the generals to stay away from politics of the country.

He was of the view that stature of the armed forces will increase if it confines itself to the security of the borders of the country only.

Commenting on the matter pertinent to the creation of new provinces, Sharif said that the govt. needed to work sensibly on the matter.
