Allies to support Zardari’s decision; polls to take place in March 2013

Islamabad: (Tuesday, March 06, 2012) Pakistan Peoples’ Party’s co-chairman and the president of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari has been pledged complete support from his party’s allies in the government for holding general elections
in March 2013.

In a meeting held yesterday night at the president house and chaired by Zardari, all the coalition partners expressed their complete support with the President. Surprisingly, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani did not mark his presence
in the meeting.

According to the sources, during the meeting, President Zardari floated the idea of postponing the general elections to March next year, which was unanimously approved by the government’s allies.

Deliberating with his idea, the president said that the democracy was returned to the country after a long time, and thus it should be protected. He also asked the coalition partners to take the credit for completing their constitutional
tenure.

Farooq Sattar, Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s leader, while expressing his support to the president, said, “MQM stands with the president on every political decision.”

Showing a similar gesture, Chief of the Awami National Party (ANP) Asfandyar Wali also expressed the resolve to lend a hand in support of every decision made by the PPP. He said, “Reconciliation policy of the government has strengthened
the democracy.”

At the end of the meeting, the president thanked all the coalition partners for supporting his party and said that the PPP will complete its tenure with their support.
