Bahria University to host a football extravaganza soon
Tuesday, March 6th, 2012 6:07:54 by Musa AfridiRumours are rife that the university is planning to wow the city of Islamabad with a feast of football in the coming months.
Bahria University is one of the premier educational institutions in the nation’s capital, though on the sports event management stage it has not been as prominent as EME and other universities.
In fact, the university has only organised one football tournament in the past few years and that too had entry restricted to only students of Bahria.
Although the tournament was a huge success, with participants and the organizers both more than pleased with how things panned out, no one ever followed up with another edition afterwards.
However, according to a number of reliable sources, all that could change in the upcoming months as Bahria are set to host another tournament that could very well see a more open participation process.
At this point in time all that has been confirmed is that the administration approached senior members of the university’s football team and expressed their desire of having a tournament before the end of the semester.
As the days get longer and summer begins to kick in, there will be more time to hold such an event.
However, details are sparse at this point in time as to where the tournament will be held and whether it will be a futsal tournament or a full on 11-a-side series of matches.
Speculation is ripe that the matches could take place in the brand new gymnasium on the Bahria Campus itself. It would be the perfect place, yet security concerns may put a damper on those plans.
The tournament held two years ago by the Bahrian team was done on a shoestring budget and really demonstrated how students from the university can make something out of nothing. Not only that but both Red Bull and Stinger sponsored the event and handed out
free drinks.
A second edition of the tournament would be welcome as it is often a great way to discover new talent and allow players to demonstrate their skills with the ball and also presents an opportunity for amateurs to have a good time.
