British swimmers prove their mettle at the 2012 British Gas Swimming Championships

British swimmers stunned the arena by capturing gold medals of their respective events on the initial two days of the 2012 British Gas Swimming Championships.

The British Championship act as a qualification trial for the 2012 London Olympic Games, as the gold medallists of every event will qualify for the upcoming Olympic Games.

In order to confirm their spots for the 2012 Olympic Games, swimmers must post a time under the A-Time Qualification Standard, set by the international aquatic sports governing body, Federation Internationale de Natation Amateur (FINA).

The initial two days of the British Gas meet featured scintillating performances of their national stars including Rebecca Adlington, Ellen Gandy, Hannah Miley, Roberto Pavoni, Robert Renwick and Daniel Sliwinski.

Pavoni was the first one to ensure his place in the British team to 2012 Olympics as he dominated the opening event of the championship, the 400m Individual Medley (IM) by posting a top ranked time of 4 minutes and 12.43 seconds.

Subsequently, Renwick snared Men’s 400m freestyle gold medal as he completed his race in a time of 3 minutes and 46.73 seconds. Miley was the third swimmer to prove her qualification into the British team to Olympics as she pocketed gold medal of the Women’s
400m IM by clocking an effort of 4 minutes and 32.67 seconds.

Gandy proved her dominance in the Women’s 100m butterfly as she defended her national title by submitting an effort of 57.25 seconds. Following that event, Sliwinski stunned the arena with his nerve-wrecking form in the Men’s 100m breaststroke as he produced
an effort of 1 minute and 00.09 seconds for the title.

Adlington also demonstrated her gruelling efforts in the Women’s 400m freestyle discipline. She occupied gold medal of the mediocre distance freestyle event by posting an effort of 4 minutes and 02.35 seconds.

Another highlighting performance of the event included fascinating efforts of Liam Tancock in the Men’s 100m backstroke semi-final. Tancock occupied the finest qualification into the backstroke playoff by posting a time of 54.47 seconds.

In addition, the British Selection Trials for the Olympic Games will end on March 10 after the completion of all swimming events.
