Universal Picture’s Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax was released on March 2nd, 2012 and spectacularly grossed $70.2 million over a three-day weekend. It is directed by Chris Renaud and features the voices of Danny DeVito, Zac Efron and Taylor Swift.
Based on The Lorax by Dr. Seuss, the CGI-3D feature follows an epic journey of the boy (voiced by Efron) hunting for the one thing that will enable him to win the heart of the girl (voiced by Swift) of his dreams. To accomplish his mission, he must discover
the story of The Lorax (voiced by DeVito), a cute grumpy creature who fights to protect his world.
The $70 million budgeted film received mixed reviews from the critics worldwide.
IMDB gave it a rating of 6.6 based on its 1,286 users while Metacritic awarded the movie a score of 51 out of 100, based on reviews from 36 critics.
Peter Rainer of the Christian Science Monitor gave a rating of B and said, “Director Chris Renaud and his team have fun with these dithery, frenetic characters. The film is less special when it slows down and takes a breath of fresh air.”
Richard Roeper also gave a better rating. He gave it a score of three out of five and declared, “This tale is filled with delightful characters and it’s sugar-coated with vibrant animation and candy colours.”
Newark Star-Ledger, however, had a different opinion. He gave the flick two out of four and declared, “"Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax" eschews [Seuss’] unique style in favor of less risky, more generic characters. It looks like something you’ve seen before.”
All in all, the movie is a must watch for all genre and it is a great way to spend time with your friends and families.
