Monday, March 5, 2012: Pakistan International Airline (PIA) employees have raised concern over hiring of retired Air Force employees to top positions in the air line. The employees of PIA believe that by hiring ex PAF personals
the government will cause the air company a lot of damage.
Zakir Farooq, General Secretary of the Society of Aircraft Engineers of Pakistan, held that this step will further dent the progress of PIA. He referred to previous experiences which did not prove to be fruitful for the countries
national flag carrier. Farooq urged the Government to select non-military personals for the posts.
He said, “Based on our previous experience, we can say that this decision will not help the airline. PIA needs people who have an experience in commercial aviation.”
Faroor further said that if the Government is not mulling over the hiring they should come clean, as PIA employees were getting the impression PAF employees were going to be hired in the airline on top positions from the managing
director to other important slots.
Farooq said PIA was a commercial airline that should be run by business-minded people who had some experience in commercial aviation. However, in case of PAF employees, that could not be expected owing to their experience of armed
forces.
However, a PIA official Sultan Hasan rubbished these rumours. He said that the company has stopped seeking new employees as there was a complete ban on hiring in PIA. He said, “No one is going to be hired in the airline.”
Sultan denied having knowledge of any such decision, but said it was up to the government to hire people in PIA.
According to PIA officials, rumours were doing the rounds that the outgoing PAF chief would take over as managing director of the airline and bring his new team comprising retired PAF employees.
The issue has gained importance and was also discussed during a meeting of the representatives of Joint Action Committee.

As of today, PAF Ex Chief has taken over PIA Management. But we strongly think that without his own team, audit and transparent accountability of PIAs misapprpriations are very difficult, as he is likely to be carried away by the present PIAs Gurus scams.
We need to think beyond personnel interests and wish and pray for the betterment and uplifting of our National carrier.
