Islamabad: (Tuesday, March 06, 2012) Senators in Islamabad today passed a unanimous resolution condemning the burning of Quran by the US forces in Afghanistan and demanded of those responsible for the act to be brought to the task.
Convening the session after senate elections that has beefed up the PPP’s representation in the upper house, the resolution presented by Nayyar Bukhari noted, “This house demands investigation and punishment for those who were
responsible for this deplorable act. Nato will have to take steps to stop such irresponsible acts in the future.”
The incident led to eruption of violent anti-US protests that culminated in killing 40 people in the country and pushing the relations between NATO and its Afghan allies at all time low. Although the US president Barack Obama has
apologized over the incident, but it has served little to cool down the angry masses.
Today, as the protests also slipped into Pakistan, the upper house passed a unanimous resolution to condemn the act.
Pakistan’s parliament is expected to review the country earlier alliance with the United States for which the joint session has been repeatedly delayed.
