Two of the top potters of Pakistan, former National Snooker Champion Muhammad Sajjad and current National Snooker Champion Muhammad Asif have successfully made their way into the semi-final
stage of the 2012 Jubilee Insurance 7-Nation International Snooker Tournament at the Pearl Continental Hotel arena in Karachi, Pakistan.
Both Sajjad and Asif defeated Egypt’s Mohamed Ibrahim Mohamed and India’s Yasin Merchant respectively in their quarter-final clashes. Sajjad will meet the Iranian National Snooker Champion
and current World U-21 Snooker Champion Hossein Vafaei Ayouri in the semis while Asif will be up against the World Number 78, Thailand’s Thepchaiya Un-Nooh in the penultimate stage.
Former National Number one, Sargodha’s Sajjad played outstandingly against the Egyptian potter and ousted him by an easy score line of 5-3 in the quarters. Until the end of Session 1,
the match seemed a tussling encounter as both players were tussling during the session to get the lead but they finished at 2-2.
After that, Ibrahim was able to clinch only one frame in the second session while Sajjad cleared the table brilliantly to oust him 5-3 and hit his semi-final spot where he will be playing
against Iran’s Hossain Vafaei.
The overall score line of the match was; 1-97, 74-34, 54-50, 1-78, 57-70, 107-25, 59-34 and 83-28.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Asif was impressive against the Indian potter, Yasin Merchant. The pair finished the first session of the match at 2-2 level. At this stage the match seemed a close
encounter but Asif changed that impression in the second session when he fired some classy knocks to outplay the Indian and nudged him down easily by the score line of 5-3.
The overall frame scores of the game were; 61-47, 0-118, 98-20, 33-65, 70-57, 25-74, 64-7 and 74-9.
Asif has now surged into the semi-final stage of the tournament where he will be facing Thailand’s Thepchaiya Un-Nooh who defeated his compatriot Noppon Saengkham by 5-4 in the quarters.
