New iPad version – 2012: Full Hands-on review – Part 3
Thursday, March 8th, 2012 7:22:22 by Usman KhalidThe juggernauts of the technology world have finally embraced the LTE 4G technology in the new iPad. So the people who want to or are used to devour the gigabits of data via wireless networks should be happy that their beloved tablet has embraced the technology. However, to me it still does not make sense, why a mobile device that has limited functionality in terms of data travelling should need a big and gigantic bandwidth but there it is and is up for grabs starting at $629 for the base model.
The software, on the other hand, is a disappointment. Many experts were touting a iOS 6 or at least a major upgrade to iOS 5 to be adorned by the new iPad. However, the company thought otherwise. The third generation of the slate comes with iOS 5.1 with iCloud compatibilities. This is one of features that have trickled down from iPhone 4S, release in October 2011.
The new iPad has a host of applications, some revamped, some renamed. The most attractive amongst them is the iPhoto app. It is preloaded and groups and manages the users’ photos and albums in a very interactive way. Mac OS X Mountain Lion also has gotten the update inspired by the iOS 5 in iPhone 4S.
Messages is another application that the new iPad has inherited from 4S. The app lets the users interact with friends and family via short messages—like SMS—on other iOS 5 and Mountain Lion devices.
Safari, Mail, Music, Calendar and Notes have been improved from the previous versions as well.
Another new application that caught the eye of the experts at the event was the Photo Booth that can be used to alter, modify and all round play with photos with an easy-to-use and interactive interface.
