The intolerance towards other’s opinions

If there is one thing that I do not understand, it is the intolerance of people towards difference. After becoming photo-copies of each other, they expect each and every individual to show the same characteristics as them, attacking anyone who dares to be
disagree with them on any matter.

Everyone is born an original with their own set of beliefs and state of mind. They have been given the freedom to like and dislike anything they want. It does not make any sense to find people telling them what they are allowed to like and what they should
not harbour hatred for.

An example of such a situation is when a person stands up and admits that he does not believe that Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was a good singer. That particular opinion is his own and he is completely entitled to it. However, rather than tolerating his views
about a figure who majority of the Pakistanis consider as their pride, the public begins to make his life miserable, abusing him and calling him retarded for daring to disagree with their opinion.

If a Pakistani artist acts in a film and someone dares to point out that his acting was pretty ordinary and should not have been casted in the film, a strong backlash follows. Everyone begins to question this person’s patriotism, calling him foolish for
not admiring and supporting his country’s talent and acknowledging the fact that the actor managed to get a role in an Indian film. What if the person who commented on the actor’s acting skills is not exactly fascinated by Bollywood? What if he believes that
the Pakistani television dramas on Hum TV are just as good, if not better, than Bollywood films?

It is unfortunate to see the strong opposition of anyone who refuses to become a photocopy. How does it matter if the majority of the people find something marvellous while one individual does not understand the appeal of that thing? Why is he not allowed
to express his opinion and then walk away without getting insulted and mocked?

If such an attitude towards difference continues to grow in our society, then soon we’ll find ourselves completely stripped of our originality and identity and will simply end up becoming dull photo-copies of each other. If everyone thinks the same way and
thinking differently is discouraged, then there would be no break-though, no improvement, no progression, no variety.
