Chaudhry Nisar hits out at DG ISI extension

Hitting out at the anticipated extension of DG Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) Ahmed Shuja Pasha, Opposition leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said if the government tries to extend his tenure for another term then it seems that the memogate scandal was fake.

In a hurried press conference, which apparently organized to counter allegations of Younis Habib, Ch Nisar Ali Khan observed, “According to my reports, President Zardari wants to give an extension to the ISI DG only to give an impression that there is nothing wrong and everything is moving smoothly”.

For the first time in the history of the country, he said that huge money of the nation was spent for recording a statement abroad in the memogate scandal. He was of the opinion that it seemed the memo issued was cooked up just only to get an extension.

The opposition leader continued that the ruling PPP instead of holding Waheeda Shah accountable for slapping an ECP (Election Commission of Pakistan) official was holding protests, saying that the commission was playing into President Asif Ali Zardari and federal government’s hands.

Urging the government he asked the incumbent should hold general elections by end of this year otherwise they opposition would take on the streets.

About the disclosures of Younis Habib, the former head of Mehran Bank, he stated that the matter was sub-judice. The Opposition leader commented, “Nawaz can reply better to this question”.

Replying to a query about the PTI’s agenda, he said, “If they give any concrete agenda then we can talk with them but right now they have nothing in mind and only promoting Imran, who is making personal attacks on the PML-N”.

In his view decisions are being made elsewhere, saying that the statement of Foreign Minister that opening of NATO supply route will be decided by parliament is untrue. The PML-N will strongly show resistance if any effort was made to use parliament as a rubber stamp.

He informed the media that they had given requisition for convening parliamentary session from March 12 for meaningful discussions over the recovery of missing persons, setting up of an eight-member National Assembly Monitoring Committee and submitting a detailed report within eight weeks.
