Nokia launches PureView 808 with a stunning camera on its back – Part 1
Friday, March 9th, 2012 7:25:25 by Usman KhalidNokia has taken the smartphone technology pretty seriously in the last six or so months and its partnership with Microsoft on Windows Phone platform has been going places. The Lumia series is selling like hot cakes in Europe and Asia because of the uni-body design and flamboyant colours.
However, the company has taken another technology into its stride and that is the camera quality. At the Mobile World Congress 2012 staged at Barcelona the company announced a stunning new camera phone with 41-mega pixel resolution, Nokia PureView 808. The new phone will be available at the end of first quarter of calendar 2012.
Even for a professional camera these are lot of pixels. In the category of smartphones, only two handsets have surpassed the double digits in mega pixels, the Sony Xperia S and HTC Titan II, both were announced at the Consumer Electronics Show 2012, Las Vegas. The Sony device incorporates a 12-mega pixel snapper while the Taiwanese brand sports a 16-mega pixel shooter. However, Nokia has left both of these ‘wannabees’ in the rear-view mirror.
The phone however, shows the symptoms of a huge camera inside its body. Though Nokia has done a great job at keep the shape elegant enough, the rear-end has a huge bulge that shows that a big lens resides inside. However, that has made possible optical zoom for the first time in a phone. Now the user needs not worry about the pixel break when zooming on the object to capture in a photo.
Another backlash at the phone’s persona is the operating system. The phone itself did not make as many articles as the operating system that embraced made. The PureView runs on the Nokia’s very own Symbian software. But don’t take it in a wrong way; it is still touch screen and capacitive one for that matter.
