Dirty truths

Younis Habib, the disgraced chief of a defunct Mehran Bank, dragged up the history of the security establishment’s foul interference in political progress made for an extraordinary and unprecedented vision.

Singing like a bird, Younis Habib has spilled the beans in as own up a manner as the stuff racy headlines are made of. He informed he was at the disposal of the honorable court and wanted to tender unconditional apology.

As chief of the Mehran Bank, he said he was compelled to succumb to the pressures of the president (debatable) and dispersed the said funds. We all know the list of those who took benefit of the immense scam.

It tells about who is who in the Muslim Leagues, with a babbling of other pro-establishment political parties as well media professionals. It was not pleasant day for Raiwind.

The PML-N will have to formulate an emergent Public Relation plan up and ready to counter the allegations. It is surprising that the mainstream media is not going after them with the ferocity it reserves for the federal government, as it is caught with their hand in the cookie jar.

Furthermore, the latter itself has also shown a surprising measure of reserve against using up this issue. Expect this to change once the League turns up the heat on another subject after this. The gloves, as it were, would come off faster than one wins an election unfairly.

However, the enemy’s enemy is already at it. Imran Khan, who is tired of being accused of the establishment’s new filly, is pulling no punches when it comes to the Asghar Khan’s petition.

Anti PTI and supporters of League are going to rather hard to swallow now. The PML-N is against the other PML-Q because the latter is cahoots with Pervez Musharraf and against PTI because it allegedly is the deep state’s favorite.

The Asghar Khan plea is buyback of the judiciary in the eyes of a number of analysts. The only political case they are hearing, though not with their usual alacrity, that does not put the current government in a bad light.

There are many idols in this temple that could be smashed if it were to be pursued in earnest. It sets a good precedent, particularly, regarding the military’s involvement in politics.
