iPad (2012 model): What’s hot and what’s not – Part 2
Saturday, March 10th, 2012 5:59:13 by Usman KhalidThe new camera boasts five lenses to capture a sharper image and aperture has been increased to 2.4f for more light induction to the sensor, just like we saw in the iPhone 4S. However, it is not 8-mega pixels like the 4S and has no LED flash light like the 4S.
If the new camera is an upgrade that can help the company lure new customers to Apple stores, than take a look at the screen. Apple has certainly reached the pinnacle in screen resolutions, as it did two years ago in smartphones. However, the big screen is more flamboyant than the iPhone 4 and 4S.
The new iPad boasts a screen resolution of a whopping 2,048×1,536, or 3.1 million pixels, which is by far the densest display in all tablets, laptops and some of the desktops. It might also have humbled so HDTVs in terms of screen resolution. Apple has reached and breached the benchmark of 332 ppi in Retina Display. The competitors will eventually catch-up with this innovation but they surely are going to have a hard time reaching there.
Moreover, the new tablet runs on the latest iOS versin, iOS 5.1, upgraded from iOS 5 that arrived in iPhone 4S, late last year. A bunch of new apps have also been included in the new tablet. New apps, such as iPhoto and updates to Garageband and iMovie have been included to the host. However, they are not preinstalled, iPhoto is $4.99, while GarageBand and iMovie remain $9.99 each.
Another development on the positive side is the adaption of 4G LTE by Apple and iPad becomes the first device to embrace it. However, the broadband wireless internet facility is available on only two carriers, AT&T and Verizon.
Verizon can offer its service to more than 200 million people in the U.S. And AT&T’s network can serve more than 70 million customers today.
