iPad (2012 model): What’s hot and what’s not – Part 4
Saturday, March 10th, 2012 5:59:00 by Usman KhalidThe good thing about 4G technology is that it can also work as a WiMax device, turning the source of 4G into a WiFi hotspot. However, in case of iPad only Verizon offers such feature, while AT&T claims that they are still working with Apple on it.
On Verizon’s network, the user can turn the new iPad into a WiFi source with the capacity if shelling out the service to five other devices connected to it.
“Yes, we currently have hotspots on other tablets, and we will continue to support it,” Verizon spokeswoman Brenda Raney told the media. “We will support the iPad mobile hotspot at launch.”
AT&T, on the other hand, said that the service will not be available upon the launch of the device but later in the first half, they will offer it to all the users of new iPad.
“We are working with Apple to enable this feature in the future, but we currently do not offer it,” AT&T’s Mark Siegel told Dolcourt.
Apple has upgraded the A5 chip that came with the iPad 2 to A5X. Many experts were of the opinion that the new iPad will have an A6 chip as the A5 had already been included in the iPhone 4S last year, but due to the restrictions of the chassis size and the new Retina Display, the company had to hold off its hand at incorporating a bigger chip.
However, that does not mean that the A5X processor is a backlash on the device. Where the processor has the same dual-core CPU, it includes a new quad-core GPU to manage the 3.1 Million pixels crammed into the 9.7-inch display. Moreover, the new GPU also works marvels while playing multi-layered, graphic-intensive games, keeping the iPad king of the tablet world in terms of gaming. Apple says this gives the A5X offers “four times the performance” of Nvidia’s Tegra 3 chip. They also claim the performance of the third generation iPad is twice that of the iPad 2.
