Which one out of the slew of ultra-thin laptops should you buy? – Part 3
Saturday, March 10th, 2012 6:00:22 by Usman KhalidMeanwhile, the slowest of the Core i-series from Intel might not be the best option to upgrade the operating system to Windows 8 upon its arrival in the latter half of 2012.
Lenovo IdeaPad U300s
The less expensive of two available configurations matches up with the low-end MacBook Air, with a 128GB SSD and Intel Core i5 CPU, but the Lenovo is about $100 less, at $1,195 versus $1,299.
Lenovo’s IdeaPad U300s is the coolest-looking of the new generation of Ultrabook laptops, and packs in a large SSD drive, USB 3.0, and more.
Our more expensive configuration offers no discount from a comparable MacBook Air, and leaves out some basic ports and connections.
Acer Aspire S3
Slim, lightweight, and powerful, it certainly looks and feels a good deal like the other ultrabooks. The difference is that Acer has decided to sell the Aspire S3 for $899, a steep discount from what you’d pay for a 13-inch MacBook Air.
With a slim, MacBook-Air-like design at a reasonable price, the Acer Aspire S3 is an example of how the Ultrabook laptop category can work if done right.
The construction is a step below superpremium, connectivity is limited, and battery life is on the low side of acceptable.
Asus Zenbook UX31E
If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then the MacBook Air should be positively blushing right around now; the Asus Zenbook doesn’t shy away from an Apple-like design in the slightest.
However, its metal-like structure and uni-body attempt are also the best feature that it has offered in the market. The outside is repellent to thumb/old stains. However, the inside is the vice versa of the concept.
On the other hand, this new device is a little on the shorter side of stick in terms of weight, when compared with Macbook.
