Krishnamachari Srikkanth expects India to bounce back in Asia Cup
Monday, March 12th, 2012 8:04:53 by Rana Nasir GhafoorAn embarrassing tour Down Under would have dented Team Blue’s confidence terribly but the Selection Committee chairman, Krishnamachari Srikkanth, is expecting the Men in Blue to comeback strongly in the ongoing Asia Cup.
The four-nation tournament started off on Sunday with an exciting game between Pakistan and Bangladesh. After a thrilling contest, Misbah-ul-Haq and company managed to outplay the Bengalis Tigers by 21 runs.
An electrifying opener has set the tone, as the cricket pundits are anticipating a nail-biting tournament. With India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan in pursue of the coveted trophy, the experts are pointing out strengths and weaknesses of each side.
A disastrous tour to Australia looks India’s biggest weak point, as the World Champions are tip-toe after their recent humiliation. After suffering an embarrassing 4-0 loss in the Test series, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and men failed to come up with an improved
show in the tri-angular ODI series.
Apart from their bonus point win against the islanders, the Indians did nothing special in the ODIs. However, Srikkanth believes India’s recent stats will matter only a little in the Asia Cup, as Team Blue has an ability to bounce back.
"We have to accept the fact that cricket is a game, sometimes there are ups, sometimes there are downs. But I am sure we will always come back. This particular tournament is an important one as far as Indian cricket is concerned. In the Indian cricketing
history itself we have always bounced back and done well. I am sure the Indians will bounce back," he said on Monday.
Srikkanth added, “Asia cup is an important tournament and as you all know a prestigious trophy. I think any win will definitely boost the morale of cricket in any part of the world including India and I am sure Indian team will do well."
India will start its campaign with a crucial game against Sri Lanka on Tuesday. The highlight of the tournament will be India’s clash against arch-rivals, Pakistan on Sunday, March 18, 2012. With every team in search of glory, an exciting tournament is on
the cards.
