Islamabad: (Monday, March 12, 2012) Supreme Court of Pakistan here today sought report on the protection of lives and rights of civil servants while performing official duties from Secretary Establishment and chief secretaries
of all provinces. The apex court has asked the respective officials to submit their findings by March 28.
Expressing its concern particularly with the security of the civil servants’ service tenures, the Supreme Court asked for para-wise comments. It also asked for explanations with regard to their transfers, removal and matters pertinent
to their posts on the interference of higher authorities.
Resuming with the hearing on the application filed by Anita Turab, a government official, a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry along with Justice Khilji Arif Husain and Justice
Tariq Parvez took up the case today.
In the previous hearing, the bench had expressed its concern and taken notice of the applicant’s request that civil servants were pushed to the wall by the higher authorities and the influentials were treating them as personal
servants.
Giving his comments over the issue, the Chief Justice said that the civil servants had to obey legal orders only as servants of the state and not that of a particular government.
