The Prime Minister of Pakistan Yousuf Raza Gilani is consistently defying the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan by not following its direct orders. The apex court of the country had recently asked the Prime Minister of Pakistan to write to the Swiss
probe in order to re start an investigation in which the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari has been named for being involved in money laundering. The Supreme Court of Pakistan explicitly asked the Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to write the letter
without getting influenced from anyone.
Despite the orders of the Supreme Court of the country, the Prime Minister of Pakistan Yousuf Raza Gilani has asserted that obeying the orders of the apex court would be going against the constitution of the country which he would not do so. Furthermore,
the Prime Minister of Pakistan Yousuf Raza Gilani stated his view that the parliament of the country should be held in contempt of court rather than himself.
Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani expressed himself in the following manner: "The Parliament and not the Prime Minister should have been indicted [for not writing to the Swiss authorities], as it is the Parliament that has authored the Constitution providing
immunity to the President. I am too small a person not to follow the Constitution, which gives immunity to the President. None of the political parties which had extensive sessions over the 18th, 19th and 20th constitutional amendments came up with the proposal
to end immunity for the President."
The Prime Minister of Pakistan has been held in contempt of court for not following the direct orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The Supreme Court had been asking Yousuf Raza Gilani to write to the Swiss probe for the re starting of the investigation
against Asif Ali Zardari which had been stopped because of the signing of the National Reconciliation Ordinance during the time that the President of the country was Gen. (retd) Pervez Musharraf. The Prime Minister of Pakistan has stated that the President
of the country enjoys immunity both within and outside the country for which he cannot be investigated.
