Dereck Chisora: I just hope they realise how sorry I am
Monday, March 12th, 2012 2:44:23 by Imran Shaukat KhanFormer British heavyweight champion, Dereck Chisora, is all set to meet the British boxing officials on Wednesday, where he could receive a lengthy ban for having an ugly fight with former WBA heavyweight champion, David Haye. However, Chisora is now regretting everything and is hoping to get some relaxation from the British Boxing Board of Control.
The 28-year-old boxer recently lost to Vitali Klitschko, current WBC heavyweight champion, via a twelve round unanimous decision but in their post-fight press conference in Munich, Germany, he had a fist fight with Haye in front of the world’s media.
Both fighters came to blows and in the immediate aftermath of the brawl, Chisora threatened to ‘physically shoot’ and ‘burn’ Haye.
The Del Boy now says it was just a brainwave and he didn’t mean it at all.
“David Haye tried to hijack my press conference, shouting at the Klitschkos,” Chisora explained.
“I was shouting, ‘I am going to shoot you’, but I would never do that.
“I don’t have a gun, I’ve never owned one and never will. It was just a stupid remark.”
Dereck Chisora has already been given with an indefinite ban from the World Boxing Council (WBC), a move which has been appreciated a lot by Vitali’s manager, Bernd Boente.
“Maybe [the BBBoC] have already made up their minds. Maybe they want to make an example of me,” Chisora continued.
“I just hope they realise how sorry I am and that all I really want is for me to be allowed to get back in the ring again and do what I do best – fight.”
The Zimbabwean-born British pugilist, Chisora, holds a record of winning 15 of his 18 professional fights, including 10 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout and his biggest regret is this that if he gets a lifetime ban all of his performances would get overshadowed.
“I’m kind of upset, because all this has overshadowed my performance,” he said.
“I know one day I will be the world heavyweight champion and that Britain will be proud of me.”
Well, all said and done let’s see what happens with Chisora on this Wednesday.
