PTI to hold party-elections for all party positions: Imran Khan

Monday, March 12th, 2012 11:22:31 by

Imran Khan, the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said that they are going to hold elections for all party positions, saying it will be only party in Pakistan history where all leaders will be elected by all the membership.

On social website, Imran observed, “PTI will become a political institution rather than a vehicle for family politics unlike most of the mainstream Pak family political parties”.

He also stated that the PTI is launching a massive nationwide membership drive in coming week, which will be the largest campaign of its kind in the country’s history. He asserted, “PTI membership drive will bring in four million new members/voters for the party by awakening the youth, the dispossessed & yearners for change”.

The PTI leader on Sunday confessed that the party was flooded with new members after the Lahore rally in 2011, so much so that the party got out of control and chaotic, saying he feels no shame in admitting this.

In quite an odd move, the cricket-turned politician said the PTI became a different party after October 30, 2011. He observed, “PTI went through tremendous change, it was a different party before (Lahore rally) and became totally different afterwards”.

Imran Khan, in order to end confusion, announced that the party has decided to start an organized nationwide membership campaign aiming to target 4,000,000 members. The will make the campaign plan public in a few days time, he added.

He was of the opinion that they will make PTI an institution that will not be Imran’s party but an entity which will continue working fairly even without him. He dispelled rumors of conflict amongst the party’s top leadership, saying none of the party leaders were planning to switch over to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

About the absence of Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Javed Hashmi, the captain said that former could not come because of the death of a close friend’s son, while the latter was in the US for a party fundraising campaign.

On the 20th amendment, Imran continued that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and PML-N have agreed upon the 20th amendment to hide each other’s corruption.

Rejecting his party’s connection with the establishment, he said the Asghar Khan case has proven who took money from the ISI.
