What the 4G indicator on the iPhone 4S screen really means? It means nothing – Part 1
Tuesday, March 13th, 2012 6:24:53 by Usman KhalidApple, Inc. announced the new iPad, touted as iPad 3 prior to the launch, on March 7, 2012. Along with the new device came an update to Apple’s signature mobile operating system iOS, the new iOS 5.1. The update includes a host new features that are meant to fix the bugs in the iOS 5 that came with iPhone 4S, especially the dropped calls.
However, the new update has taxed the popularity of the operating system on iPhone 4S as it has germinated a bug of itself. After updating the smartphone to iOS 5.1, the carrier indicator, next to the signal bars now indicate 4G instead of normal indicator, 3G.
This has sprung a frizzle over the internet to whether the iPhone 4S has turned a 4G LTE device overnight. Users have hoarded the web with questions related to the new update; whether it incorporated a bug or is it the truth that their handsets have all made a shift to the advanced wireless technology.
Truth be told, there is no genuine fourth generation wireless technology yet introduced to the masses in any place in the world. Rather, it has all tweaks to the existing 3G tech that makes the download and upload speeds faster than what we had a couple of years ago.
As for the 4G indicator on the iPhone screen, it is a marketing hoax created by AT&T, with the help of Apple. The reason is that the users of Verizon don’t get the same indication on their handsets even after updating to iOS 5.1.
This trend of 4G was first created by T-Mobile USA, two years back, when they deliberately named their HSPA+ (High Speed Packet Access) as 4G in their marketing campaigns.
