Islamabad: (Monday, March 12, 2012) The Supreme Court of Pakistan has asked the parliamentarians holding dual nationalities to submit their responses by March 29. The apex court has taken up the issue on the plea filed after the election commission of Pakistan
banned dual national to hold public offices.
The plea, filed by Mohsin Akhtar Naqvi, is being heard by a three-member bench headed by Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
Currently, the bench has asked for list of the parliamentarians who possess more than one nationality.
Submitting his plea, the petitioner maintained that about 35 members of both provincial and national parliaments, including federal minister for interior hold dual citizenship.
Proceeding with the case, the apex court has asked the petitioner to provide evidences to support his claims. The hearing of the court will now resume on March 29.
