Hussain Haqqani denies allegations made against him

The former Pakistani ambassador, Hussain Haqqani, to the United States has recently denied the allegations made against him that Haqqani had previously said that he had no contact with the key person in the memo gate scandal, Mansoor Ijaz.

Haqqani said this as he submitted his response to the judical commission that is currently reviewing the memo gate case. Having said that Haqqani did have contacts with Ijaz, the former Pakistani ambassador to the United States categorically stated that
all other allegations made against him are false as well.

Haqqani expressed himself to the judical commission by giving the following statements, “All the allegations levelled against me by Mansoor Ijaz are baseless and there is no data to prove them.”

The former ambassador to the super power did not himself appear before the judical commission but submitted his written response through his counsel, Sajid Tanoli. Along with the written response that was submitted, hard copies of the telephone bills of
Haqqani were also provided. These telephone bills ranged from May till November 2011.

On the other hand, the following email was received by the Express Tribune from Mansoor Ijaz: “Now he says he never denied having contact with me when just one month ago in his initial appearance before the Judicial Commission, he denied everything about
the entire case, including having contact with me during those three days in May 2011 when he dictated the content of the memorandum to me verbally…and then asked me to get it delivered to Admiral Mike Mullen for further action with, as he told me, his ‘boss’s
approval’.”

The memo gate scandal has engulfed the country since the time that Mansoor Ijaz came forward with the allegation against the former Pakistani ambassador to the United States that Haqqani asked Ijaz to deliver an unsigned memo to the US that asked for US
assistance in reigning in the military of the country. The memo indicated that the Pakistani government ruled by the Pakistan Peoples Party was in fear that the military of the country might plan to undertake a coup after the death of Osama bin Laden.
