The former Pakistan ambassador to the United States and the central character of contentious Memogate scandal, Hussain Haqqani categorically denied allegations by Mansoor Ijaz.
In a reply submitted to the Judicial Commission on memo case, Haqqani, said that he never denied contacts with Mansoor Ijaz, however, insisted that he never discussed any memo with the American businessman.
“All the allegations levelled against me by Mansoor Ijaz are baseless and there is no data to prove them,” asserted the former Pakistan envoy.
Haqqani, through his legal counsel Sajid Tanoli, submitted a written reply to the commission probing into the contentious scandal. Copies of Haqqani’s telephone bills from May to November 2011 were also attached with the reply.
The judicial commission investigating the memo scandal had asked the former ambassador to submit his response on the allegations leveled against him by a Pakistan-born American businessman Mansoor Ijaz. The commission had also directed Haqqani to provide
the commission copies of bills of his cellular communication, along with his BlackBerry Pin codes, in writing which he had used between March and November, 2011, by March 15.
Meanwhile the central character of the scandal, Mansoor Ijaz has said that Haqqani has selective memory adding that each and every statement in his response is indefensible.
“Now he says he never denied having contact with me when just one month ago in his initial appearance before the Judicial Commission, he denied everything about the entire case, including having contact with me during those three days in May 2011 when
he dictated the content of the memorandum to me verbally, edited the written version after accepting Gen. James L. Jones’ stipulation that the message had to be sent in writing, and then asked me to get it delivered to Admiral Mike Mullen for further action
with, as he told me, his “boss’s approval”, said Ijaz in an email sent to The Express Tribune.
Ijaz further added that Haqqani and his counsel are now boxed into a corner from which they cannot escape.

An active political envoy of Pakistan in the US keeps communication open with everybody interested in Pakistan. M. Ijaz has written so much about Pakistan and spoke on the TV so many times that he became a factor on Pak/US relationship. HH has always given priority to people interested in Paksitan and worked to change their outlook. Not engaging is not an option especially after 9/11 and OBL in Abbottabad, when HH single handedly defended Pakistan and its armed forces in the US.
