Rehman Malik to present Mehrangate evidence in Supreme Court
Tuesday, March 13th, 2012 10:00:15 by Faisal FarooqInterior Minister Rehman Malik said he was ready to appear before the Supreme Court to produce documentary evidences with regard to Mehran Bank scandal.
“The money Younis Habib had distributed is on record and I will produce evidences in the court if it summons me,” the minister said while talking to media outside Parliament House.
Rejecting the claims of the PML-N‘s leadership that they did not receive money, the minister said the Mehrangate record would speak louder than their verbal claims and clarifications.
A treason case should be lodged against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders for hatching a conspiracy to topple the democratic government, he added.
The minister said an action should be taken against those who violated the constitution by distributing and receiving Mehran Bank’s money.
“It is better for Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif to apologize for having received money for the 1990s elections instead of making any clarification,” he suggested.
Now, he added, the time has come for the PML-N to face the music in the court as it continued to pull his party ministers in different cases. “PML-N has dragged us in the courts however, now it’s their turn,” he maintained.
Malik said the record of money distributed among political leaders by ISI was intact which could be produced on demand.
On the other hand, PML-N’ Senator Pervaiz Rasheed rejected the allegations of Nawaz Sharif taking money from the Inter-Services Intelligence Agency (ISI) for 1990’s elections.
Talking to the media persons, the senator said that the scam was a fraud. “The entire drama is uncle-nephew game. He was referring to ex-Mehran Bank chief Younis Habib who said President Asif Ali Zardari used to call him chacha (Uncle) in the Karachi jail.
Referring to Safdar Abbas Zaidi, Ahsan Muneer and the then ISI chief, Assad Durrani, Rasheed said all the people involved in the scandal were given important portfolios during PPP’s governments.
He said his party would accept the court’s decision in the case. He said nobody has any proof against the PML-N leaders about talking money from ISI.
