Foreign minister of Pakistan, Hinna Rabbani Khar said on Wednesday that they have multiple sources available to finance the contentious gap pipeline project with neighboring country Iran.
Speaking to the media reporters on Wednesday, Ms. Khar said the decision of a Chinese bank to back off from funding the project will not affect the plans of Pakistan to import gas from southern neighbors Iran.
“There are multiple sources available and this is fairly a very viable project,” Khar said today during a joint press conference with her Swedish counterpart Carl Bildt in Islamabad.
The Pakistan foreign minister also rubbished the impression that the decision of Chinese bank will affect the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project. It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan is pursuing the project with Iran despite an escalating
pressure from Washington to abandon the project.
Khar brushed aside the impression that the Chinese decision would affect the country’s plan to import gas from neighboring Iran. Pakistan is pursuing the project despite mounting US pressure to abandon the project.
Replying to a query regarding Pakistan government’s decision to rewrite terms of engagement with the United States, NATO and ISAF, the foreign minister said that it will expand cooperation with international players instead of contracting it.
“We hope that the world will respect the new terms of engagement,” she said, adding that Pakistan wanted to assist western forces stationed in Afghanistan with a smooth exit from the war-torn country.
