Islamabad: (Wednesday, March 14, 2012) The National Assembly here today unanimously adopted Pakistan Muslim League – N’s resolution on missing persons.
The resolution, seeking recovery of people from enforced disappearances, was moved by Muslims League’s senior leader Zahid Hamid and was adopted by the house without objection.
The resolution proposed the formation of a high level committee that may comprise of eight members from both the upper and lower houses of the parliament. It stated, “The committee should be formed after consultation between the
speaker national assembly, prime minister and the leader of opposition.”
The committee, as per the resolution, will meet families of the missing persons and the security officials and on the basis of its observations, it will share the findings.
The resolution further added that the committee must also consider the recommendations of the apex court and should also dwell on to the recommendations given by the commission formed for recovering the missing persons and the
murdered journalist Saleem Shahzad.
The resolution also demanded for the creation of a law that may determine the limitations and role of the security agencies.
