Top Political and Military leadership decides on rules of engagement with the US and NATO

Islamabad: (Wednesday, March 14, 2012) Pakistan’s top military and political leadership, in a meeting convened here today, discussed and approved recommendations over new rules of engagement with NATO and the US.

In the meeting, the participants reached the consensus to table these recommendations in a joint session of the parliament on March 17.

The high level meeting that took place at the president house, besides President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, and Army Chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, was also attended by the leaders of the coalition
parties.

The military leadership briefed the political leaders over NATO supplies and expressed their resolve to implement the recommendations on national security in letter and spirit once approved by the parliament.

Towards the end of the meeting, both military and political leadership declared that they will not compromise on the interests of the country at any cost.

It was also decided that the parliament had the right to amend the recommendations on national security and integrity. The participants reiterated that the supply to NATO will only be resumed after approved by the parliament.
