Roy Jones junior says he’ll beat Floyd Mayweather but Manny Pacquiao is different

The Captain Hook, Roy Jones junior, who is the only boxer in history to start his career as a light middleweight and go on to win a heavyweight title, reckons the eight-division world champion, Manny Pacquiao, is a tougher fighter than the five-division world champion, Floyd Mayweather junior.

The 43-year-old pugilist, Jones, who left his mark in boxing history by winning the WBA heavyweight title, becoming the first former middleweight champion to win a heavyweight title in 106 years, insisted that with his fighting style he can overpower Mayweather junior but he will have to face problems against the Filipino star.

“The young Roy Jones, Jr. would probably beat Floyd Mayweather, Jr., because basically Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and James Toney fight with the same style. My style is a different style to theirs.”

“But when you come back and start talking about Manny Pacquiao, he’s a whole different animal. He’s a southpaw who throws bombs. You’ve got to survive his power first, then you deal with him. That’s still left to be seen. Of course with my size I’ll beat him, but if I was in his weight class, that would be a good fight to see,” Jones said on dBoxing Source Radio Show.

Mayweather junior, the current WBC welterweight champion, holds an undefeated record of winning all of his 42 professional fights, with 26 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout. He is also considered as the hardest man to hit in the ring.

However, when it comes to Manny Pacquiao, the current WBO welterweight champion, he has suffered stoppage losses on three occasions. Yet he is considered as one of the best because of his relentless aggressive style and a killer left-hook.

Both arch rivals, Pacquiao and Mayweather, who are considered as the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world, are currently in negotiations regarding their proposed dream-fight, which is one of the most eagerly awaited fights in the history.

Nevertheless, it has not been made as of yet since Mayweather junior doesn’t want to give Pacquiao a 50/50 split.
