Kabul: Afghan Taliban, alleging the US for maintaining a “Shaky, erratic and vague” position, have suspended the talks process initiated in Qatar.
The initial contacts between the US and the Afghan Taliban were believed to be fruitful as they culminated in forming an agreement for establishing an office for the later in the Gulf State of Qatar to kick start the peace negotiations.
Although talks have not substantially begun as yet, but the recent announcement on part of Taliban will surely dent the hops of a negotiated settlement to end over a decade old war.
In a statement formally issued by the Afghan Taliban, it was said, “The Islamic Emirate has decided to suspend all talks with Americans taking place in Qatar from (Thursday) onwards until the Americans clarify their stance on the
issue concerned and until they show willingness in carrying out their promises instead of wasting time.”
The Taliban also denied having initiated talks with the Afghan government declaring it a pointless exercise.
The recent announcement has come forward days after an American soldier killed 16 Afghan civilians in the South.
The brutal killings in Kandahar province on last Sunday have raised certain important questions on Western strategy in Afghanistan and have increased the intensity of the demands for withdrawal of the foreign combat troops.
