Fijji’s Grill Islamabad – Is there substance beneath the style?
Thursday, March 15th, 2012 5:09:31 by Musa AfridiWe take a dive into all that the restaurant that claims to have ‘the best steaks in town’ has to offer, but did our trip leave us impressed or disappointed?
Many people will have seen billboards and advertisements of a restaurant that claims it has ‘the best steaks in town’. Being an avid steak enthusiast, i felt that such a boast by a eatery deserved a checking out. Yet, one man cannot sample all the food on
offer, but four could.
So along with a group of fellow food enthusiasts we set out to find out, just how good Fijji’s was. Located in Blue Area, at the end of the Parliament Road, right next to Babar Awan’s office, Fijji’s Grill, stands with Mr. Cod as its neighbour.
Upon walking through the wooden doors one finds himself having to watch their step as they are greeted by a flight of stairs that takes them to the bottom floor. One immediately has to worry about the fumes from the Sizzlers that the steaks are served on
and whether there is sufficient ventilation.
To be fair, there is, but the few minutes may leave the diner slightly irritated. However, one thing that won’t irritate the dinner is the ambience and the lavish interior of the restaurant. It is cosy, trendy, formal and informal all at the same time.
There are seats and sofas, so a person can choose to sit wherever or however he feels comfortable.
After being guided to our seats by the uniformed staff, and no we don’t mean military uniforms, but rather a small unit of waiters in black
shalwar kameez, we are handed the menu.
While reading through the menu i pause and laugh at what i read, as do all those with me. The names given to the dishes will surely crack any diner up and are as imaginative as they are irrelevant, but still add a nice touch.
I was expecting the grill to serve only steaks, yet it turns out Fijji’s offers a wide range of dishes to satisfy anyone’s appetite and match any palate, but was it any good?
