Chief Minister of Punjab and one of the main leaders of Pakistan Muslim League (N), Mian Shahbaz Sharif has dismissed the claims of former Mehran Bank chief, Younis Habib and alleged that the President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari is behind this conspiracy.
Supreme Court of Pakistan opened the Asghar Khan petition last month and since then, Habib has made a lot of allegations against the leadership of PML (N), as he was involved in bribing different politicians on behalf of the establishment of the country
in order to form Islami Jamhuri Ittehad (IJI).
Habib claimed that he gave 3.5 million rupees to Nawaz Sharif and 2.5 million rupees to Shahbaz.
However, PML (N), which was reluctant to talk about this issue, has taken an aggressive stance against Habib since last couple of days. While talking to the reporters, Shahbaz expressed indirectly that this is the conspiracy of Zardari and Habib is a puppet
of PPP.
PML (N) leadership is further looking to take a legal action against Habib for false accusations.
Shahbaz said, “Everybody knows that a powerful man sitting in Islamabad is behind the plot and Younis Habib is being used as an instrument. We have constituted a panel of lawyers to launch legal action against Younis Habib to unmask the real conspirators
behind the game.”
The Chief Minister further added that no authenticity should be given to Habib because of his controversial past.
“We don’t give importance to the statement of Younis Habib as he is notorious for such plots. Moreover, the list of his crimes is too long; that is why he can’t be trusted in any sense as he has changed his statements four times.”
Shahbaz further expressed that there have been a lot of contradictions in the statements of Habib and he has no evidence to support his allegations.
“Younis Habib has said that he sent me the amount by TT. Then he changed his stance and said he sent me the money through Asif Jamshaid. However, Younis is unable to produce any evidence to prove his claim,” he added.
It remains to be seen that how the Mehran Bank scandal shapes up in the Supreme Court and how many politicians are exposed through this case.
