Dereck Chisora says he is bitterly disappointed by ban
Thursday, March 15th, 2012 2:20:39 by Imran Shaukat KhanFormer British heavyweight champion, Dereck Chisora, has insisted that the British Board of Control’s decision to withdraw his licence has bitterly disappointed him.
World Boxing Council (WBC) already handed Chisora with an indefinite ban along with a fine but now his licence has also been withdraw by the BBBoC in Cardiff, after a hearing which lasted around four hours.
Chisora told The Sun: “I’m bitterly disappointed my licence to box was taken away by the board. Right now I am an ex-professional unable to earn a living.”
The 28-year-old, who held a record of winning 15 of his 18 fights, with 10 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, was involved in several controversial incident before and after his WBC heavyweight title fight against Vitali ‘Dr. Ironfist’ Klitschko at the Olympiahalle on February 18, 2012.
The Londoner slapped Vitali at their weigh-in and before the fight he spat water at Vitali’s younger brother Wladimir Klitschko in the ring. Things didn’t finish here, as later on the post-fight press conference he had an ugly brawl with his fellow countryman, David Haye, former WBA heavyweight champion.
Chisora and Haye came down to blows and in the fight’s immediate aftermath he threatened to ‘physically shoot’ and ‘burn’ Haye in front of the World’s media.
Nevertheless, now the pugilist is regretting for whatever he did in Germany.
He said, “My dream has always been to win the world heavyweight title and of course the punishment dished out is a big setback to me achieving those aims.
“But I will be back in the gym even though I do not know when the board will grant me a new licence to box.
“I am already on record as saying I bitterly regret what happened in Germany. And if anyone wants to hear it again: I’m sorry.
“The Boxing Board’s decision to withdraw my licence has really hurt me. But what is hasn’t done is dampen my love for the sport.”
Well, all said and done, let’s see if Chisora gets another chance of get into the ring.
Meanwhile, no charges were brought against Haye since he officially announced his retirement last year in October.
