AVAST Free Antivirus 2012

In the category of free protection from malware on the systems, AVAST has stolen the podium from the likes of Avira and AVG this year. Its latest 2012 version leads the race with vast pool of virus definitions and more keep pouring in.

Its interface is optimal for every system and is compatible with every version of Windows from XP to 7. The updates are regular and internet security is great while browsing and downloading files.

It works hand-in-hand with the web browsers to check the files downloaded and the pages loaded on the browser for any malware.

Tools like using reputation to evaluate downloaded file safety; a lightweight browser add-on that doesn’t interfere with your preferred search and provides on-the-fly site reputation; system-level rootkit prevention; and its AutoSandbox help hold its own against many paid suites. It lays a light hand on your computer’s performance, and the interface is clean and goes easy on the jargon.

Avira AntiVir Personal – Free Antivirus

The German software company came with one of the best free anti-virus software in the market. In 2009 it was the most widely used anti-virus application in the world with around a 100 million users.

However, its luck hit the snag in 2010, when it attracted opprobrium on the substandard definitions and lag in updates. However, the company, it seems has learnt from experience and the 2012 version looks to be aptly designed for protection. The updates to date are regular and effective. But the final verdict would have to wait a little while to shore up.

These are some of the software in the market available for Windows users to protect their systems from malware. However, the applications cannot save the systems all on themselves. Users have to be careful about the usage as well.
